Took was the Name of a family of Hobbits in the Westfarthing of the Shire.They were believed to have been descendants of the Tookthanes (oldRh. "Tuccia-Thegnas"; Dn."Tucca-Tigernu") a warlike tribe of Fallohide Halflings.
Notable sidelines of the widespread clan were the Banks-Tooks, Chubb-Tooks, North-Tooks, Oatbarton-tooks, Took-Bagginses, Took-Bolgers, Took-Brandybucks and the Took-Tooks.
