Yestarë was the Quenya term for the "New Year's day", the first day of a new Löa or coranar. While the Eldar celebrated their New Year near the Spring Equinox (modern March 29 in the Rivendell Reckoning, but on or closer to the equinox in some other Elvish calendars) the Númenóreans kept the name, but moved their New Year towards Midwinter. In the Fourth Age King Aragorn Elessar introduced the New Reckoning which brought the gondorian calendar in closer congruence with the elvish calendar of Imladris and moved the Holiday of Yestare towards three days before Spring Equinox (modern 17. March).
