Uinen, Mistress of the Wingildi

The Wingildi or Wingildin were one of the three hosts of Ulmo's Merfolk, serving the Lord of Waters in the deepest domains of the sea. These Water Spirits were beings of both beauty and grace, shimmering like the glistening foam upon the crest of waves. In the earliest accounts of the world, they were described as the embodiment of the calmer, more serene aspects of the sea, contrasting with the tempestuous Falmarini and the steadfast Oarni. They were also known as the Foam-Fays, Foam-Maidens, Uinenore', Ailinê or Nymphs and ' were led by Uinen, Queen of Mermaids who guided these spirits with a gentle and nurturing hand. As the nurturers of the sea, they were highly revered by the Númenóreans and were seen as protectors of the sailors and those who traveled upon the waters, their songs resonating like the softest breeze across still waters. Their beauty was often likened to that of the stars above, shining in the reflective light of the moon upon the ocean’s surface.
