Water leapers (Or."Plashfarghi") or Thaurûnath (S."Vile Creatures") were strange beasts inhabiting swampy underground areas in some parts of the misty mountains and the foothills of Rhudaur. It was unknown if they were reptiles or amphibians or even if they were natural animals at all or rather monsters of Morgoth. Some scholars thought them to be warped versions of the frog or toad families while others thought of them as a species of Unbird.
