The Watchtower of Ostirith (unknown meaning) was a watchtower in the Southlands of Middle-earth, an area that would later become the Plateau of Gorgoroth and Núrn.
History[]
The Watchtower of Ostirith was first built during the Elder Days by worshippers of the Dark Powers. It stood watch over many villages such as Tírharad, Hordern, and Iorbad. After Morgoth's defeat, the tower was occupied by a garrison of Silvan Elves led by Revion, who took over the post of Watchwarden. Arondir and Médhor were among this garrison.
Notes[]
Ostirith seems to come from the Sindarin words "ost" (fortress) and "tirith" (guard).
From maps, it appears to be located in Núrn. The inhabitants seem to have more Celtic/Germanic inspiration, implying they would correspond with Ioriags or Donaen.
The full name “Watchtower of Ostirith”, comes from the trivia note to Scene 42 of the episode called "Partings" in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
