Waldreg (Hal.:"Great loss"?) was an elderly petty-chief of Tirharad who lived during the Second Age.

He appears to have been from a group more culturally of Dônan and/or Donaen descent, though with others likely having mixed heritage withnthe hpse of Sulam or even Altin Emungi.

History[]

The descendant of peoples who sided with the forces of the Dark during the First Age, Waldreg's people were watched over by a group of Elves, a small force sent by High King Gil-galad to watch over places where allies of Morgoth could stir. Waldreg strongly disapproved of Arondir and the Elves of the area, as he believed they resented the men for their ancestry. He also indulged in the mocking of Bronwyn, as all knew that the village healer had fallen in love with the Elf. However, he was surprised when Bronwyn returned to him and others with the head of an orc she had managed to slay during an attack on her family home.

Notes[]

Waldregs name is most likely from a pre-numenorean indigenous language, maybe a halethian dialect distantly related to primitive elvish. If so, his name could mean "great peril" or "great loss".
