Ungoldain

Ungoldan tribal priestesses

The Ungoldain (WRh."Spinnantheud", Mb."Kevnisdenion", Un."Lóbguru") were a tribe of wild men native to the foothills of the Grey mountains. Most likely descendants of the Beoac and Ymirsfolk, they had adapted a strange form of animal totemism and worshiped the Great Spiders, and even adorned themselves with their carcasses. Whatever the origin of their strange spider worship was, it seemed to benefit them, as the giant spiders generally seemed to either ignore or even tolerate the Ungoldain as some of their own. The Ungoldain were generally shunned by other men and even Orcs and Trolls, and largely stayed among themselves. Rumor, however, had it that the Ungoldain were not only worshipers of the Spider-demon "Mam Murgwid", it was whispered among the Men of the Anduin Vales that during the passage of time, the Ungoldain had in many ways actually become like spiders themselves, and there was more than just some truth in this....

Language[]

The Yngoldan language seems to have been distantly related to Daenael and Rhovanian, though it also incorporated elements alien to both, possibly of Easterling origin.

Notes[]

Original form in LOTRO: Ungoledain.

The Ungoldain presumably are kinsmen of the Gauredain and Beornings. In LOTRO it is revealed that they were the descendants of lawless men who had once stolen the secret of shapeshifting from the Beornings and Radagast the Brown and abused the gift to make a pact with the Spiders, eventually becoming a tribe of Spider-shapeshifters or "Were-spiders".

The Ungoldan language seems to be influenced by debased Breton, debased Old Norse, Romani and Gaelic
