The term Umbarean (Um.) may refer to three different languages:
- 1. the ancient dialect of Um
- 2. the Westron-dialect of Umbar
- 3. the dialect of the Umbarean Haruze or Near-Haradrim.
The ancient dialect of Um was believed to have been a southern dialact of the Sakalai or Daen-family while umbarean Westron was a descendant of Adûnaic with influences from the elder Um-dialect as well as Haruze from Near-Harad.The dialect of the Umbarean Haruze finally was a heavily accented Haruze.

The Umbarean language, made up the the ICE Authors,is loosely based on Semitic vocabulary, as the place-name Umbar has a real-world equivanent in arabic (a word meaning "Holy or sacred Place").
