The Two Lamps or Lanterns of Valar, known as Illuin (Helcar) and Ormal (Ringil), were the first great sources of light in Arda, created by the Valar during the Spring of Arda. These mighty lamps illuminated the world in an unchanging day, marking the epoch known as the Years of the Lamps, the first age of peace and harmony before the marring of Arda. Crafted by the Valar Aulë, hallowed by Manwë, and filled with the light of Varda, they stood on towering pillars that surpassed the height of any mountains in later ages.
