Tengû (Av. "Undirected") was a type of demon serving Morgoth in Angband.Tengûi could appear in various forms, some appeared dog-like, other rather man-like with bird-like features like feathers, raven-shaped heads or ugly Troll- or Orc-like long-nosed faces.They most likely once had been lesser Maiar of nature whom Morgoth had corrupted to his cause.

The Tengu is featured in some variants of the Angband roguelike Game.In japanese myth they are lesser demons or spirits of the sky and the mountains who may appear in dog-, raven- ugly humanoid or hybrid shape. Given that Yavanna sent spirits out into some animals, the Tengus may have been animal-shaped spirits that fell under Morgoth's corrupting sway. Tengu also boasted powerful teleportation spells. Based on the term from Japanese mythology--this seems to make sense.
