Hey Haerangil, I am finding errors on the timeline for the Seven Fathers and the Dwarven Migrations on pg. 43 LOME 3. I do feel Thelor IV aka Sindri IV makes sense to hold and lose Gundabad in the Second Age, thus migrating to the Hills of Rhun. That works perfectly!
But the Dwarf tribe that holds the areas at which the Witch King strikes in the First Invasion of Angmar is non-existent on the Dwarven Migration page. So if Bruni has his ring captured by the Nazgul--how can this happen if Dwalin's tribe didn't have any holds near Angmar? You see what I am saying? Bruni has to lose his ring of power, to a Nazgul before Thrain II loses his, and the Angmar War works out perfectly for this, but the migration page shows no Dwarfs going up to the area of Angmar, but the canon of the books say that the Witch King attacked a Dwarf Hold to gain entry for his forces.
What do you think we should do? Moran half valar (talk) 22:46, April 11, 2019 (UTC)
Think I found the error[]
Ok, you list Thrar as being Druin when in the book they are different. Maybe Uri should also have the name Thrar since LOME 3 shows Thrar and Dwalin's people going to the Blue Mountains along with Durin's Folk (after Erebor is lost there are 3 Dwarf holds in Ered Luin).
So if Dwalin and Thrar = Dwalin the Wise and Uri the Cold
Durin and Druin = Durin the Deathless and Druin the Proud
Bavor and Barin = Thulin (Bavor) the Swift and Malln (Barin) the Scarred
Finally Thelor wold = Sindri (Thelor) the Rich/Grim
I feel this might be what you are trying to do, but we would have to re-write the Seven Rings of Power and how they were captured/destroyed.
But this might be a long overhall, I think the best way to solve all of this is keep everything the way it is maybe, and just discard the Dwarven Migration page in MERPS. Moran half valar (talk) 23:16, April 11, 2019 (UTC)
This issue is still not resolved: various forms of Malin/Malln [double-]redirect here, or to Úri the Scarred. What is to be the (hopefully) 'final' solution? --Hlingler (talk) "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." This article states: "Father to Vár", but the article on Vár states "Vár was a daughter of Druin, King of the Blacklocks". So which is it? Or is there more than one Vár? -Hlingler (talk) "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." EB Hall, "Friends of Voltaire", 1906 18:09, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- No it is WAY more complicated than this. The problem actually was, or is, that both MERP and LOTRRPG messes up the seven fathers names.MERP mixes old norse names with total fantasy names that just look norse while LOTRRPG uses all real norse names but messes up the gender of the names. Thus i thought the best compromise would be to keep those seven old norse names from both games that are usuable and retcon the fantasy forms as easterling/Haradron names and retconning the female misgendered ones as queens/princesses.
I did my best to arrange this as well as i could but obviously it never can work fully, i had to reassing some names to other houses to make it work.
Druin should be Blacklock-father's Hillman or easterling name as alternative to his Northron name for which i chose Thrar.
Bavór should be the stonefoot-fathers norse name instead of the female Vár.
