This was the final battle of the War of the Last Alliance. During this seven year siege, Sauron finally came out to fight and slew Gil-Galad and Elendil the Tall. Anárion, Isildur's brother, also fell. After a lengthy battle, Sauron was defeated by Isildur who took his ring for himself. Cirdan the Shipwright and Elrond Half-elven both counseled against this, but Isildur would not listen--and the relationship between elves and men were sundered. The Dwarves under King Durin V, saw their task as complete and marched back to Khazad-Dûm. This battle would lead into the Third Age, and the decision that Isildur made would rule the fate of many.
