A short sword is a single-handed usually double-edged sword that is too short to be considered a long sword but too long to be a dagger.Several variants are known some of which are called Hunting sword, Dirk , Seax or long Dagger.The Eket could also be considered a short sword or a something-in-between of a short sword and a Dagger, it was effectively based on the "Ecét" a short stabbing-sword of the High Elves.
