Serpentdemons

Demon-Serpents (Q. "Lókeraukar" S. "Lhygrogath") entwined themselves about the pillars of Morgoth's Throne Room in Utumno and later Angband. Always present by him, as sycophants and thanes, they were the descendants of fallen Water Spirits, banished from their original realm for servitude to the Dark Lord and survived only in the Underdeeps, in tainted waters and Bogs or marshes. They were clad in shadowy, slimy, dark Fánar, scaled and slick, and surrounded by dim shadows or fog. Their fell eyes could paralyze one who looked into them. Elvish scholars deemed them to be the ancestors of all Snakes and serpents, as well as possibly (at least to some degree) of Morgoth's Dragons.
