The Sedêre (Ki."Settled People") were a Mayitûan people which formed a significant minority population throughout the Dominions of the Seven, but mostly in northern Zimrathâni. A somewhat primitive, semi-nomadic, warrior people, they appeared to live primarily as herders (supplemented by extensive hunting and gathering), dwelling (with the leave of the Lords and the Adena) in those areas unsuited to agriculture (too dry, or too rugged).
Culture[]
Each clan of the Sedêre was led by a Macu, who was usually the greatest warrior, and was elected every half-year at Midsummer and Midwinter. Both men and women could challenge, although the honor usually passed to a male.
The clans gathered together at the spring and autumn equinoxes, where their leaders took advantage of the celebrations to arrange marriages between the various clans.
Both men and women of the Sedêre learned to fight. It was said that blunt weapons were used as children's toys in certain clans, and that training with the dagger, short sword and Blowgun began at the age of five. By adulthood, all were skilled hunters and trackers. The most talented were apprenticed to martial arts masters, who traveled between tribes and had a status as mystics. Sedêre monks havd a fierce reputation in the Seven Lands, and most of them had agreed to officially serving princes of Númenórean blood.
Religion[]
The Sedêre worshipped a variety of deities and frequently borrowed beliefs and practices from the Adena or the Drêl. Their principal rituals centered around homage to Ascuru Hudari, (the God of Struggles (He appeared to have been analogous to the Vala Tulkas.)
In the mid to late Third Age, an increasing number of Sedêre were turning toward Darkness. Some adhered to the tenets of the Servants of the Real Fire, while a small but powerful faction subscribed to the influence of the Cult of the Dark Overlord.
Notes:[]
Original form in MERP: Sederi = Sedêre (Quenya -i plural changed for a more native looking or possibly Adûnaic influenced spelling)
Debased Yoruba might work as a language base for Kirani. Used (simplified) Yoruba for the Kirani of Koronandë, but most words work for the Sederi language as well.
