The Sons of Feanor with their Noldor armies attacked Doriath. With Melian gone and Doriath having fought against Nogrod--Doriath was at a weakened state. Only the Sindar remained in Doriath at this time as many of the Green Elves had fled from the Dwarves to the Havens of Sirion. The Sinda that remained were under King Dior, and they fought valiantly but ended up losing the battle, and Doriath was desolate. King Dior was slain, but so did Celegorm, Caranthir, & Curufin fall.
After the battle, the remanents of Doriath went to the Havens of Sirion and joined up with the rest of the Sinda from Gondolin. Elwing escaped, but her brothers Eluréd and Elurín were left in the forest by Maedhros and Maglor--Maglor took pity on them and convinced Maedhros to go look for them, but they had disappeared and were never heard from again.
