Saithnar was an elf of Nargothrond.A famous swordmaster he was one of the companions who joined Finrod Felagund and Beren Erchamion on their quest for the Silmaril.Saith found his death when he was captured and eventually slain by Sauron's werewolves on Tol Sirion. (N)

Saithnar was a name mentioned by Beleg Cúthalion in a sharpening spell he casted on his knife.was a character of the First Age whose sword was mentioned by Beleg Cúthalion in a sharpening spell he casted on his knife along with the Dirk of Loruin or Nargil, the Glaive of Gaurin, the Spear of Ogbar, the silver blades of the enchanted children, the Halls of Rodrim, the sweeping sickle of the slashing tempest, the lambent lightning's leaping falchion and the Sword Celeg Aithorn.
Since Beleg mentioned the names of knives and Gnomish blades it seems likely that Saithnar was a forgotten Noldorin hero,possibly one of the ten companions of Finrod Felagund.
The name Saithnar may be translated as "sevenfold fire".
