The River Morthond (S."Blackroot") took its name from the mountain of the same name (The Dwimorberg) where its principal headwaters lay. Passing through the uplands of Mornan on its long journey to the sea, below the Nineryn, the river became the boundary between Lamedon and Anfalas and, from its confluence with the Ringló at Glanhir, between Anfalas and Dor-en-Ernil. The Motrhond was navigable as far as Rendul by flat-burtomed boats, and as far as Glanhir by sea-going vessels.
Morthond's waters were deep and swift-flowing, and provided no fords. Only two small bridges in the Nan Morthond more than a hundred miles upstream, offered dry passage across the river. Otherwise, the traveler was dependent upon the ferries that operated out of most of the towns and villages bordering the river. The outflow of the Morthond contained several rocky islets, one of which housed the ancient Falathron stronghold of Lond Duilin.
