Randírrond (S. "Wanderer's Hall") was a village on the northern side of Ram Galen. As in most other villages, the main occupation was
farming. Altogether there were about fifty families, forming
a population of about 300. About ten of these families were
liegemen of either of the two nobles that owned land around
the village. Some twenty other families rented farmland—
most of them from the nobles, but two from wealthier
farmers living in the village, and four from a merchant of
Annúlond who owned land here. The rest were free-holders
of larger or smaller plots. A few freeholders also farmed
rented land beside their own plot. All houses were small,
single-story buildings, usually of only one or two rooms.
The exception was the slightly larger house of one of the
local nobles which had two stores.
In winter, most locals were engaged in lumbering in the nearby woods of Ramgalen, either on the orders of their lord (a liegeman or wealthier renter) or as hired hands. Trees were cut down and dragged to a nearby creek and, in springtime, the logs were floated down to small sawmills in the Morthond valley.
