Come March T.A. 2759, the Long Winter ended and Fréaláf Hildeson, Helm's sister-son and new King of Rohan, came from Dunharrow and took back Edoras. Wulf was slain in a daring surprise attack from the warriors of Rohan, who took refuge in Dunharrow. Fréaláf avenged Helm with Wulf's blood and managed to push the Dunlendings and Easterlings out of Rohan. The remaining Dunlendings held Isengard and were starved out of the area. During the Spring, Gondor managed to beat back the Corsairs and sent aid to Rohan.
After this, Saruman was given the keys to Orthanc and was personally asked to help defend Rohan from any Dunland incursion.
It is also most probable that this time is when Bladorthin aided the forces of Rohan and Gondor. According to the timeline of canonical sources--this battle is where he gains the title the "Great" and it is this battle that makes him commission the spears of Erebor for his armies.
