The Quean-School, along with the Freeman-School, was the first of Gin’s Singing-Schools of Man. It was founded by Sakalgimil Blacknail in TA 1188 (289 in the Girt Calendar). It served the purpose to train young women from poor backgrounds, often former homeless, thieves, vagabonds, or prostitutes, to school them for a new, more reputable life as minstrels.
