Orrostar (Q. "Eastlands"; Ad. Azûlzâyan) was the easternmost promontory of Númenor, stretching nearly two hundred miles west to east and surrounded by sea on all but its western side. The land was largely defined by a range of low hills along its northern coast, which shielded its inland fields from the chill north-east winds blowing off the Belegaer.
While the coasts were sparsely populated, the inland region of Orrostar was among the most fertile and productive agricultural centers on the island, renowned for its extensive grain fields that supplied much of Númenor’s staple food. This region, blessed by the warm winds of the east, contributed greatly to Númenor’s self-sufficiency, ensuring a steady harvest even as the rest of the island turned its focus to seafaring and distant exploration.
