An Oronin or Mountain-Sprite

An Oronin or Mountain-Sprite

These were fays (Sprites/Fairies/lesser Maiar) that lived in the mountains. They were also known as Leprawns and considered a host of Yavanna's Folk.

Notes[]

The Orossi or Leprauns were only mentioned in Tolkien's early works, the Book of Lost tales. They are never mentioned again prominently in later works, though they could be seen as a forebear of the Maiar and Fairies and Nature-spirits like Tom Bombadil or Goldberry. The Hobbits reflect some of the cliche often liked with the Leprawns such as yellow and green clothing or the legends attached to the "mad Baggins" who would turn himself invisible and bring hoards of Gold.
