Orcish blades were described as "curved swords", "bent swords", "sawtoothed blades", "long knifes", "great knifes", "cleavers" and "scimitars", all of which may indeed have refered to several quite distinct types of weapon, though most seem to have been one-handed, non-straight, one-edged sidearms worn in addition to shield and spear, or long cavalry weapons, such as those used by Wolfriders. The only type which was seen as "un-orcish" were the short, straight-bladed, broad weapons wielded by Saruman's Uruk-hai, which far more resembled mannish weapons than any kind of blaxe commonly associated with orcs and probably were originally inspired by dunlandish or rohirric designs.
