The Nwûrdu (U.:"Folk of the strong one") were a second Age people of the Northern Peninsula.A tribe of Mornârim origin they claimed to be the descendants of Nwûrud, one of the first men of Hildorien. They were a very strict, matriarchial society.Their most famous descendant was Hôarmûrath, one of the nine Ringwraiths. The later Ûrdar were the Nwûrdu's direct descendants, but so were many of the Ûrdarian speaking folk of the north who were all remnants of the Nwûrdu's great second Age conquest of the Far Northern lands.

Notes[]

MERP does not distinguish between the Urdar of the mid-third and the mid-second Age, however as it seems unlikely that a human culture of Lesser Men would prevail unchanged in name for about almost 3400 years at last one predecessor culture, was assumed. It is even more likely that between the mid 2nd Age Nwûrdu and the mid 3rd Age Ûrdar many more cultural stages and diverging names and self-designations existed (even the long-lived Dúnedain had three or four).
