The nokupug was invented to replace the bird simply called "Nighthawk" in the "shade of the sinking plain" sourcebook.The description of the bird is based on the Northern goshawk rather than the real Nighthawk, which is native to southern america and rather unsuitable to a region such as the sinking plain which is more comparable to southern siberia.
