The Mungo was a burrowing cat-like or weasel-like lama raustëa, a sub-type or early ancestor of the Mongoose. It was native to some parts of Gondor, Drúwaith Iaur, southernmost Eriador and Rhovanion, northern Harondor and the border-marches of Mordor. "Mungo" also was a common personal name among the Hobbits who were mostly unaware of the name's origin among southerner Hunters.

Notes[]
"Mungo" is a scottish name, possibly derived from a pet form of welsh, fy nghu "my dear (one)".Mungo also is the germanic form of "Mongoose".Few Hobbits actually wear scottish names, most likely Professor Tolkien's use of it as a Hobbit personal name was a linguistic insider-joke.
The "Mungo"'s description is based on the european Mongoose.
