Miruvor

Miruvor

A most marvelous enchanted Elven alcoholic beverage, Miruvor was a potent wine, or possibly hard liquor, brewed in sacred ritual by great Elven Nobles and royalty, who passed the secret of its making from father to son and mother to daughter down from the Valar of Aman who first taught the art of fermentation to the ancient Elves of the West. Held in great reverence and prized amongst non-Elves, it was, like many of their products, given away to the deserving, rather than sold. Each brewer used a different recipe for fermentation; some more potent and some less, some of fruit and some of grain, but all had generally the same effects due to the length and techniques of brewing and the blessings bestowed upon it by its makers. Miruvor was more potent than the average draught of wine, yet it did not intoxicate the mind, per se; rather, it cleared the mind, and stress vanished to give way to logic after drinking. It also bolstered against fatigue and psychological distress, and drinkers could expect to feel reinvigorated after consuming, rather than drowsy. A number of other benefits were attributed to it, depending on its source, but like all stimulants, its potency wore down with tolerance. It was thus only given in small amounts as a rule. Nonetheless, even Elven children were reputed to consume it at times. It was made in nigh-on all the High-Elvish states and realms in the Westlands of Middle-Earth, from ancient Gondolin by the many houses of the Noldor and the empire of Elu Thingol in Beleriand to the refuge and enclave of Imladris and the hidden realm of Lórien.
