Morthec

Merro an Glastanan (SA 3227-3324) was the King of the Men of the white Mountains that initially swore the oath to Isildur Elendilion when Gondor and Arnor were first founded. It is unknown if he returned as an undead as the curse of Isildur effected the entire mountain and he felt forced to bend to Isildur's will.

Merro wandered the southerly reaches of Ered Torthonion in Belfalas. He was a devoted servant to Sauron after defeating many of his fellow chieftains in battle. Sauron eventually decreed him to be the sole ruler and Merro, now known as the Morachd became the first King of the White Mountains. It was then that Sauron presented Merro with the Star of Gobha.

Merro and his kingdom carried out many skirmishes with the Dunedain, but the exiled Numenorians were not impressed or worried about the men of the mountains and eventually Isildur came and Merro was forced to give terms.

After this Merro was plagued by what he had done and thought about breaking the oath. Since the oath was placed on the Stone of Erech, he couldn't bear the thought of breaking it and ending his kingdom. Merro eventually committed suicide and relinquished his crown to his son.

It is possible that Merro was resurrected as an undead with his son and stood next to their grandson, Morthec an Gruan, the King of the Dead as Merro cheated his way out of the oath and would most likely have either gone to the Void or remained as a ghost of the paths of the dead.

Items[]

Merro did possess all the items of the King of the Dead first. But now he may be one of the kings that have certain items in the Paths of the Dead role playing module.

  • Battle-Ax
  • Shield
