Mardil Voronwë was the first Ruling Steward of Gondor (T.A. 2050-80). He assumed wardship over the South Kingdom when KingEarnur accepted the challenge of the Nazgul and disappeared, leaving Gondor without a monarch or a proper successor. Mardil was accounted a wise and fair ruler.
