Máugarth was a Dark and Powerfull spirit that was corrupted when Melkor first came to Arda. He was the first Wight in Melkor's force. Máugarth was one of the lords that defended Utumno with Melkor during the Elder Days. He was eventually destroyed by the Host of the Valar (War of Wrath) but aided in costing the Host dearly at the end of the First Age.

Máugarth, became a Wraith like creature after Melkor's corruption. He was the first of the Barrow Wights to come into prominence and he needed no Barrrow from which to direct his evil.
