Like Khy to the south, Klyan was located to the west of the Ered Harmal. It was also an arid region, although its higher altitude (averaging 2,000 feet) helped to mellow the harsh climate.
A Khyan-speaking people, the Kly tribesmen lived in fortified hilltop villages. They subsisted on a broad variety of meat and dairy products, and made their living by herding or rug-making. As heirs of the former Gondorian puppet-kingdom of Arthanor, they were not under rule of Sauron until the years between the 24th and 30th century of the Third Age, after which only a poor and mostly deserted land remained.
