The Kings of Númenor (Ad. Âru n'Adûnâi "King of the Anadunians"[1]) are descended from Elros Tar-Minyatur, brother of Elrond Half-elven; through Elros, they are descended from Eärendil the Mariner and thus from all three of the Houses of the Edain and from Noldor kings through Turgon the Wise. Twenty-two legitimate rulers of the line of Elros bore the title of King (or Ruling Queen) of Númenor. Elros Tar-Minyatur began his reign in the 32nd year of the Second Age and his line lasted for 3,287 years until the Downfall of Númenor as brought about by the actions of Ar-Pharazôn[2].
All the rulers of Númenor used a prefix before their name: either the Quenya Tar- or the Adûnaic Ar-; both prefixes have the same meaning, "high," "royal," or "king."
