The King of the Dead
Also named Morthec an Gruan when he was alive, the King of the Dead as he would later become known by, was the Daen Morachd who broke the oath of Isildur, which his grandfather, Merro an Glastanan had sworn more than a hundred years earlier, to ally with the Dúnedain in war should the legacy of Sauron ever threaten the Faithful in their exile. Morthec's father Rioc an Glastanan was consumed by the rage he felt for his dead father and taught his son to not trust the Faithful as they were a blight upon this world. With Rioc's death, Morthec chose not to aid Isildur when he was called to war. Cursed by Isildur for ending this troth, the young Morachd became known as Gruan ("The Doomed"). The First of the Oathbreakers and last of the kings of the mountain.
Morthec would continue to lead his people even past death. Eventually he was recruited by Aragorn II and the Grey Company — he fulfilled his oath by defeating the Corsairs of Umbar during the time of the War of the Ring.
