Ilmarin Mansion of the High Airs
Great Ilmarin

Ilmarin (Q. "Mansion of the High Airs") was the Great Hall of Manwë and Varda, the highest dwelling of the Valar in realm of Valinor, standing upon the summit of Taniquetil, the loftiest mountain in all of Arda. From this celestial palace, Manwë Súlimo, the Elder King, gazed out across the world, watching over the lands of Ambar and Exambar, while beside him stood Varda Elentári, the Queen of the Stars, whose light shone even from the highest heavens.

Ilmarin was a place of purest air and unbroken peace, where the winds whispered the songs of creation, and where the sky stretched out in an endless dome of blue and silver. It was the closest place in Arda to the realm of beyond, for no land stood higher than the peak of Taniquetil. In its lofty courts, above all the lands of Aman, Manwë sat upon his sapphire throne, ruling as the appointed voice of Eru Ilúvatar, while Varda, beside him, wove her lights into the heavens.

During the High Feast of the Valar, before the Darkening of Valinor, the Maiar, the Vanyar, and the Noldor gathered in Ilmarin to sing before Manwë and Varda, filling the halls with music that echoed through the heavens.
