The Icelands (Q."Helcëmar") or Izmilthâni (Ad."Lands of Grey-White") were legendary cold lands or an island beyond the northwind, discovered by Eärendil the Mariner on his voyage to the west.

It is possible that originally a historic precursor of the real Iceland was intended, although it may also be possible that , geographically, real-world Iceland rather would correspond to Hithlum or Dor-lómin and "Iceland" just implies an icy or ice-covered region.
