The Hands of the King are the Hands of the Healer

"The Hands of the King are the Hands of the Healer" by Matěj Čadil

The Houses of Healing (Q. Már i Estel, S. Barath Estel, Nol. Bair Nestad) were the great sanctuaries of healing in Gondor, most renowned among them being those in Minas Tirith, where the wounded and afflicted found refuge during times of war and plague. Established in the early days of the Kingdom of Gondor, these halls were attended by skilled healers, known as the Estëhildi or Herborim, and assisted by the wiseladies of Gondor, who preserved the ancient knowledge of healing arts. The Houses were sanctified by the blessings of Estë, the Vala of rest and healing, and maintained a tradition of herbal lore and spiritual care dating back to Númenórean wisdom.

Note[]

Before the establishment of the Houses of Healing in Gondor, great halls of healing existed in Númenor, most notably in Andúnië and Rómenna, where the Faithful preserved the healing arts learned from the Eldar. Also in Beleriand, the Elves maintained healing sanctuaries in Menegroth, Nargothrond, and the Havens of Sirion, where wounded warriors and weary travelers found respite under the care of Elven healers.
