The hill-toad was an ugly reddish-brown amphibian native to some of the more isolated swamp and grass areas of Arthedain and the shire such as the Bindbole Wood, the frogmoors, tookland or the Vale of the Water.It could grow up to sizes of almost one foot in length but was otherwisely mostly harmless to men and hobbits, though in times their population could multiply to such numbers that they became a nuisance to gardeners.
