Hendor the Old
Hendor (S. "Eye-lord" ?) was an Elf of Gondolin and an aged House-carle of Idril Celebrindal. It was him who rescued her child Eärendil when the city fell to the hosts of Morgoth.
The tale of Hendor (N)[]
Hendor was one of those ancient Elves born at Cuivienen.He was a close friend of Maryarossë Tatayondo and followed his son Finwë Ñoldóran on the Great Journey into the Immortal Lands.In Aman he stayed a loyal retainer of Finwës at Tirion upon Túna until his death.As the Noldor split , Hendor supported Finwës son Fingolfin and ever stayed loyal to that house.He was young Turgon's teacher at arms and followed his former pupil to Gondolin as a faithful household-Knight.
With Eärendil and a small group of Refugees he escaped to the Haven of Gondolin and later the Havens of Sirion.He died in the Third Kinslaying.
