The Hûb Conath (Falear-i-Toroni)
The waters which had drowned the lowlands between Himring and Dor Caranthir, the scene of some of the worst defeats inflicted on the Noldor. The creation of the Hub Conath (S. "Bay of Lamentation") isolated the upper Gelion from the lower and the peak of Himring from the mainland. The bay was the scene of fishing and patrolling by the Feanorean Noldor of the region until the Long Winter. In that long season, the fleet had been destroyed and the settlements attacked by a Drake. The waters were perilously shallow in many areas and non-Elven ships tended to avoid the coast, crossing to the Ice-bay in the vicinity of Himring. This was encouraged by the Elven dislike of whaling in their waters.
