Hên was a black powder prepared from the seeds of the gên flower, a sunflower native to cool, temperate shortgrass prairies which closely resembled the common sunflower except it was shorter, rarely exceeding 2' tall, and had orange flowers.Hên was prepared by roasting geen seeds, then grinding them to powder. Heen attacked the mucous membranes lining the digestive system, causing ulceration.Raw gên flower seeds had the same effect but were slightly weaker.
