Gypsies may refer to:
- the Amrog-dorn
- Dain Saedhu
- Northron Gypsies
- Tinker-folk
Notes[]
Surprisingly J.R.R. Tolkien's gnomish wordlists do in fact have a term for gipsy, "amrog-dorn", glossed as "brown Wanderer". It has been a matter of debate if this can be interpreted in a way in which there were precursors or even ancestors of the later gypsies known in Northwestern Middle-Earth or if in this context gipsy just refers to the tanned look of wanderers in the wild, not referring to any particular culture. Tolkien's own motivation when he invented the term was to be able to translate the english placename Gypsy Green a place in Staffordshire, into his elven languages.
