Greylin

Course of Greylin (labeled "Mithlin") (MERP)
Other names
(S.) Mithlin: "Grey" + lin

This small, cold, and swift river in northwestern Rhovanion was one of the ultimate sources of the Anduin. The Greylin (Éo./W. "Grey-torrent"[1]) arose in the pass through the Grey Mountains which bore its name (Cirith Mithlin) and flowed just sixty miles before it and other small tributaries joined with the Langwell to form the Anduin.

The only known town of the Éothéod, Framsburg, was located at the confluence of Greylin and Langwell.

Other names[]

  • ICE named this river Mithlin in their MERP publications, however, that name seems to be a polyglot of Sindarin mith = "grey" + lin[1].

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 From Anglo-Saxon: "græg" + lin from hlynn = "torrent".
