The Gold-toad was a very rare animal.It was usually unknown to the westlands, but was sometimes held as a pet by alchemists and magicians, who believed them to bring good luck, sometimes these pets seem to have been broken or set free and could be found in small colonies near to ancient Dúnadan ruins.They were often believed not to be native to middle-earth at all but possibly to have been introduced by the Númenoreans.
