Gildris Azrâzîr
Glirdis (S."Poetess") or Azrâzîr was the wife of Tar-Calmacil, the eighteenth King of Númenor, reigning alongside him from S.A. 2737 to 2825. As queen-consort, Glirdis wielded considerable influence in the royal court of Armenelos. She was a staunch supporter of the King's Men, advocating for policies that slowly distanced Númenor from the Eldar and the Valar. Her influence is thought to have played a role in Tar-Calmacil's decision to adopt an Adûnaic regnal name, Ar-Belzagar, marking a cultural shift in Númenor. Glirdis was also known for her patronage of the arts, particularly works that celebrated Númenórean imperial power and the dominance of the King's Men.
She sponsored the construction of monuments in Armenelos that glorified the kingdom’s military victories and naval supremacy, reinforcing the ideology of Númenor’s divine right to rule over Middle-earth. Her political acumen and skill in navigating court intrigue earned her a reputation as one of the most formidable queens in Númenórean history. She bore three children: Tar-Ardamin, her husband’s successor; Lossemírë, known for her patronage of the arts; and Gimilzagar, a renowned military commander.
