Glíriel (S. "Daughter of Song and Poetry") was the queen consort of Arthedain, wife of its tenth king, Argeleb II.
Glíriel was of high Dúnadan blood of the nobility of Arthedain; she still had the look of a young woman fifty years into her husband's reign. She was one of the Dúnedain of the North with a true gift for magic, and owned a wand that would later become a relic of the Dúnedain after the fall of Fornost.
She bore her husband an heir, Arvegil, as well as the younger sons Beren and Minastir. The queen also had two daughters, Nírien and Irlinniel.
Glíriel was known to be a pleasant and noble queen who truly cared for her people. The Shire-grant occurred some ten years into her husband's reign, and she went out of her way to befriend some of her new Hobbit subjects.
