Girt-by-the-sea (Kil."Kilta-Azranud") was an ancient númenórean prison-colony on Southernesse's great east-continent's southeastern shores. It was the name of the original first settlement and the coastal plain of later Girtland, before Inland Girt was settled.Later it fell under the rule of the Northern Invaders.
The name was believed to stem from an Adûnaic translation of the indigenous "Balûyâgang" or "Mâlyûli", meaning "surrounded by great waters" in the languages of the Old Ones originally referring to the entire continent, not just the mining-colony on it's southeastern coast.
