The Gúrzyul (B.S.: "Deathless") were powerful Men and Women who served Sauron and were personally selected by him to be given a sort of "immortality." Having served Sauron in the late Second Age, their master bled them with his morgul-knife, Gulthauk, and thus prevented them from aging. However, unlike the Nazgûl, the Gúrzyul could truly be killed and could not be brought back from the dead. Each Gúrzyul took a new name after becoming Gúrzyul, forgetting their old names.

The Gúrzyul outlived the destruction of the One Ring and became the leading figures of a ruined Mordor following the fall of Sauron and the Nazgûl. However, Gandalf believed that they were beginning to fade away in Sauron's absence, as it was only thanks to him that their lives were prolonged. The Gúrzyul were ruled by Dulgabêth, once Mouth of Sauron, who proclaimed himself Sauron's Heir, and fought against the Rangers of Ithilien who dared to occupy Mordor.
