Brethil2

The Forest of Brethil, often simply called Brethil, was a vast woodland realm of Beleriand, lying between the rivers Taeglin and Sirion. It was a land rich in history, deeply entwined with the fates of the Edain and the Eldar, and became the dwelling-place of the Haladin, the People of Haleth, after being granted to them by King Thingol.

Though originally considered part of Doriath, it lay beyond the enchanted Girdle of Melian, leaving it vulnerable to the ravages of Morgoth's forces. Over time, Brethil bore witness to many pivotal events, including the battles of the Haladin against the Orcs of Morgoth, the tragic tale of Túrin Turambar, and the death of the last members of the House of Hador, earning it the sorrowful name Sarch nia Chîn Húrin ("The Grave of the Children of Húrin"). The main feature of the forest was the hill of Amon Obel, where the Haladin built their stronghold, Ephel Brandir.
