a Fishing-Cat Kitten
The water-loving fishing cat (Dn."T'malshi") was most commonly found in the marshes along the eastern shores of the Sea of Rhûn and in Wetwang (Nindalf).
Unlike most felines, fishing cats had no dislike of water and were well-adapted to aquatic life. They could swim moderate distances and fish by flipping the fish out of the water with deft strokes of their semi-webbed paws. Fishing cats supplemented their diet with birds, shellfish, and amphibians. Stealthy hunters, their mottled gray-brown fur enabled them to hide easily among the marshes and along the river and lake shores that formed their homes.
Their kittens could be domesticated, but like other large, wild cats, fishing cats never became very friendly and were primarily one-person pets.
